i received a heartbreaking email the other day from a friend here on myspace. i have also met him recently at a show in chicago. at the show i could tell he was having a hard time but at the same time very positive about life and his music. he dropped me an email. here it is.. (don't worry i have his permission to publish it) "I ask you humbly, on one knee if possible, what it can mean to be truly and utterly happy? I've been mired in a negative miasma for months, clinging weakly, akin to drowning with no air to reach. Over the weekend some of these hang-ups came to light after a bad falling out with a now former friend in my "scene", and while I know she would've said a lot of that shit to poke at me, I can't help but look back on it and realize it may be the truth leaking out. I've been miserable for far too long, and want out...not only out of this degrading music scene populated by nay-sayers and backstabbers (and obviously enter a new one where my skills can be appreciated), but out of the smog they emit, the soul-crushing, volatile detriments of false hope and fake sincerity. I ask of you as I fear I may not be able to do it alone...how can happiness and contention be achieved? please.. if you have any words, any thing, to console him. please don't hesitate to help because i'm sure each and everyone of us have dark times such as this.. i do believe time heals all wounds and as long as we're living, we will always experience pain. but i do encourage you to learn from it, and to embrace it because without pain, we cannot appreciate pleasure. and i know that this life brings more pleasure than pain. as for the music industry or the entertainment industry in general, it the road less traveled because if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. but whatever you decide, make sure it's for you and not for anyone else. again, i wrote this song knowing that the road to happiness, is the same road to "me" and only you can bring happiness into your own heart.

i get alot of email everyday asking me about the music/entertainment industry.. and my first response is always.. passion's a big word. and finding your passion doesn't always come easily. so how do i find it you ask.. they say if u think love needs to look like "romeo & juliet" then you might overlook a great relationship that grows slowly. and if you think you haven't found your passion yet then you probably think it should be overwhelming. when i first started doing music all i wanted was for it to supplement my true passion at the time which was acting. i figured it could only boost my acting career.. but here i am with a single, an ep, and 5 full albums later. and writing songs like there's no tomorrow :) so no, passion doesn't have to strike like lightning. not right away anyways :) but it does come in doing what your heart calls for. everyday. every moment you can spare. i hope you find your passion if you haven't already. and may you keep finding more passion cause i know i do.. a song doesn't fail to keep me up at night when i need to be sleeping..

i'm sorry to say but i didn't know anything about these photos until just now. one of my friends here on myspace wrote me this: "I have a question...how do you feel about the whole Miley Cyrus Asian eyes photo...I'm wondering an Asians view point seeing as how Gwen Stefani and her Harajuku Girls made "Big White Round eyes" in Gwen's Holla Back Girl...please elaborate" - kj i guess there's a $4 billion class action law suit filed against her claiming discrimination on Bill O'Reilly 's show it was called a "..silly, stupid, dopey photo.." and O'Reilly himself said that "we all know this is stupid.." and that this is a "..ridiculous complaint, has no basis.." furthermore this is what kj had to say when i asked him for his opinion.. thought i'd tell you about more competitions i created.. (between my own songs that is:).

it's just that radio shows and dj's are asking me which song or songs (usually just ONE but sometimes up to 3) on my christmas CD should they should play. and i'm like "uh.. christmas is easy when love's around....?....".

everyone has their favorite but they all have a special place in my heart so i can't decide.

(sorry i had to shorten it a bit) "Don't have a HEART ATTACK drivers Projected gas prices will be as low as one dollar sources and economists tell me here in St Louis it might be around 95 cents a gallon. now it is about $1.59 I think I was in 7th grade when prices were that low so my prediction is January 20th gas prices will be $1 cheaper I do not know if I am right but it is sure to decrease because so many people are losing their jobs be blessed if you still got yours I thank God for my two jobs. may peace be with you" i have to admit! the drastic drop in gas prices in such a small amount of time has me a bit nervous. i'm sure there are alot of reasons for this.. and of course i am grateful that somehow we americans are making a difference in this economy. but.. hi! thought i'd share a philosophy i truly believe in with you. i just finished an interview with Yellow Magazine (which will come out in November) and again i stated the fact that family and friends are truly what counts.. and so this saying.. "To be happy at home is the ultimate result of all ambition." - Samuel Johnson sometimes we get soooooo busy reaching our goals or finishing a project or making money that we forget what's truly important and what our 'ultimate ambition' is. and that is, to be happy at home. know who/what is truly important to you and make time.. you ARE truly important to me and i do try sooooo hard to make time. i know i don't get to answer your emails/comments right away, or sometimes i don't get to at all but just know that you are always in my heart and have a special place there.. always.. i really do wish i could spend more time with you :) love always.. TEY: my fans are incredibly supportive! i always say.. "i am nothing without the listener". and i certainly have wonderful listeners.

Was it hard to be discovered? What advice would you give to those trying to reach discovery?

TEY: it certainly takes hard work! in your art, in every part of your career. my advice would be to work your butt off!!! in your art and in every part of your career.. to be yourself, to be honest with yourself and others, to always reinvent yourself, don't be afraid of changes, and to have people around you whom you can trust. always treat others as you want to be treated and be on time! and do as you say.. always!

On the fashion side of things, how would you compare your personal style to your performance style or is there no difference?

How do you bring your Filipino (did I use the correct term) culture to the stage?

TEY: i try to perform at least one song with some "tagalog" in it. i love to share my filipino culture because i think it's a gift. and it's amazing how well my audience really appreciate it. i'm never surprised when they enjoy my tagalog songs more.. and buy my tagalog cd's as well.

no matter what life brings i can't help but be thankful and always smile and laugh. maybe it's my upbringing, i thank my parents for that! and THEIR parents! they have always taught me to always be "thankful". my dad said it again to me the last time i went home for mother's day, he said his dad always told him "i don't go to church to ask for anything. i go there to say THANK YOU".

i was recently given a choice to befriend a 7 year old boy with Project Child Smiles (PCS - where artists unite to brighten up a child's day by their heart). i am told he has marfan's sydrome. i was reading about the illness on the internet but the information i'm getting is limited to the medical and scientific side of it. if you know anything more personal about the disease or know of anyone who does i would love to hear all about it.. thank you so much for your help :) love always.. p.s. financial donation to this cause is always welcome here. all donations are used for all children and not one specific child.

as some of you may know i lost a close friend last year to a motorcycle accident all too suddenly and soon after my grandmother and just before then a dear uncle. i know many have seen worse but the grace i take from that grief is the constant reminder that when we die, we take nothing with us. not our cars, not our clothes, not our iphones, not a thing. but we do take valuable gifts such as friendships, and love, and respect and that is why it means so much to me that you are listening to my music because no one can take that away from me.. ever :)

i hope you see yourself the way i see you too.. you're beautiful.. and amazing.. and god is in all of us..

"Who Dies" is the book that comforted me last night as Heath Ledger's death kept ringing in my heart for more reasons than one. When I first heard the news I again was faced with the fact that 'life IS short and we can all go at any time'. As some of you know, I lost a dear friend on Sunday evening March 4, 2007, and Heath Ledger's death took me right back to that same evening, to those same moments, the same minutes, the same day, the same dread, the same pain. Death is tragic.. and sometimes more tragic when someone is so young, so talented, so full of promise and hope. My friend was also that. He was an Emmy-nominated songwriter/producer. He just won a 2007 Billboard award. Ron Fair, chairman of Geffen Records described him as '..a great musical talent & genius, who hadn't even begun to tap his full potential yet.' He was at the top of his game when he died. Grief has a lifelong impact. So I find myself again reaching for those same books that have comforted me over and over, those same friends, those same memories. And for that I am thankful. Grief separates you.. from other people, even from yourself. No one knows how, when, why, it just exists. Grief.. and at that moment, there is no place to hide. There is nothing you can do to make it go away. All you can do is be.. in that moment. I give you this snippet of one of my writings then. "It's been 10 days since you left and I can't get you out of my mind. It's hard to believe I've been crying for 10 straight days. Every day I think it'll get better but there's always something else. I keep thinking I'd run out of tears but I haven't yet.." It gives me comfort knowing you're all there.. And I hope to give you comfort in being here.. In being me :) So in the face of grief.. surrender. Let it open you. Let it turn your life around. Let it make you the person you've always wanted to be. "What is often called tragedy holds the seeds of grace". And we see that what brings us grace is not always pleasant, though it is certainly essential. Much love.. more love than before..

I decided to write this blog because even though my song "Isang Linggo Na Naman" is in 'tagalog' (native language of the Philippines) I perform it alot at shows even when no one understand what the heck I'm saying in words.. but they do understand what I'm saying in my heart and soul. It's true that "Music is the Language of the Soul". It amazes me to see and know that language ISN'T a barrier all. I think it actually joins us and brings us closer to understanding one another. I never really expected to sell many of my 'Mouthful of Love' CD to non filipinos, but I have :) And that alone has shown me the pure beauty of 'embracing' our differences. And I appreciate you for embracing mine.. So for James in Shreveport, Louisiana (who wrote me this morning with this - "I really love the song Isang Linggo Na Naman. Could you tell me what it means?"), for my Minnesota fan who's favorite is this, my French fan who was one of the first ones to buy the album, one of my drummers, Mike my tour manager who always encourages me to sing it, Michael of Here and There Zine who supports me without hesitation and doubt, for the many soldiers in the Middle East who embraced this song and even requested me to sing a 'tagalog' song, for all of you.. I am humbled. Here's what the ISANG LINGGO NA NAMAN is all about. It's about these lovers who only see each other on weekends. It's actually quite entertaining and a bit comedic how she describes her week without him, or even special occassions sometimes without him (if it lands not on a weekend :). What are your most private aspirations? I would love to know.. but even if you don't feel like sharing here.. I want the most important person - YOU - to know it, to trust it, cultivate it, to live it. My most private (well not so private anymore), it hasn't been for quite some time now. Is to be able to be there for everyone who needs me. I have always had the compassion to feel, to be there for my friends and family and I only wish I had more time to share, to listen, to truly be there. But through the years I have found a way.. I way to share, I way to listen, I way to truly be there.. and that is simply through my MUSIC. And that is what I live for.. Once again I have to share how you've all been such a blessing to me.
